NEW CASTING TECHNIQUE FOR A WIDE RIBBON IN A SINGLE-ROLLER PROCESS
[摘要] Casting examinations using a multiorifice nozzle were carried out to establish the casting process for ultrawide ribbon of amorphous alloy in the single-roller process. A multiorifice nozzle used in the present work had plural orifices arranged in the direction of wheel width. In casting using such a multiorifice nozzle, the coalescence of melt puddles formed between orifices of the nozzle and wheel surface is necessary to obtain a wide ribbon. The casting examinations indicated that the coalescence of melt puddles depended on the dimensions of orifices in the nozzle. Optimizations of the dimensions resulted in stable coalescence of melt puddles and a ribbon with uniform thickness and width. It is considered that this new casting technique makes it possible to obtain ribbons without limitation in their widths by controlling the number of orifice of a multiorifice nozzle. In fact, a ribbon with 300 mm width was obtained by this casting technique.
