FORMATION OF FE-AL2O3 INTERFACES BY HOT-PRESSING
[摘要] Bonds of substantial strength may be formed between sapphire (alpha-Al2O3) and high purity iron. Samples were fabricated under reducing conditions using hot pressing, at a pressure of 1 0 MPa and temperatures of 850-1450-degrees-C in a vacuum of 3 x 10(-6) Torr or better. The interface microstructure was characterized using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The strongest bonds were observed to be accompanied by the development of a thin layer of oxide (75-450 angstrom thick) at the interface which was determined by electron diffraction studies to be FeO.
