Interview with Sir Michael Atiyah

[摘要] Michael Atiyah and his collaborators have changed theface of mathematics in recent decades. In his work, onecould single out, among other fundamental works, the index theorem (in collaboration with Isadore Singer) andthe study of the geometry of the Yang–Mills equations,with important applications in theoretical physics. Hiscontributions wonderfully illustrate the unity of mathematics and show, in particular, the importance of the interaction between geometry and physics. He is a key actorwith tremendous influence on the work of the scientificcommunity devoted to these subjects. Among other prizes,he has been awarded the Fields Medal in 1966, the CopleyMedal in 1988 and the Abel Prize in 2004. He was alsoone of the promoters for the foundation of the EuropeanMathematical Society.
