Göttingen’s SUB as Repository for the Papers of Distinguished Mathematicians

[摘要] For over a century, the Göttingen State and UniversityLibrary (SUB) has served as an important repositoryfor writings, correspondence and other documents ofvalue for the history of mathematics. These collectionsdate back to the early years of the university when thepolymath mathematician Abraham Gotthelf Kästnerand the astronomer Tobias Mayer were among its moreprominent faculty members. Today, the Department ofSpecial Collections (Spezialsammlungen) in the old library of the SUB houses over 50 collections of papersas bequests (Nachlässe) of prominent mathematicians,most of whom were associated with the university.Since 1997, information relating to these holdings canbe found in the databank HANS (http://hans.sub.unigoettingen.de/), an acronym for Handschriften, Autographen, Nachlässe and Sonderbestände.
