In Memoriam of Edwin F. Beschler (1931–2018)
[摘要] For almost 40 years, EdwinBeschler was one of thegreat figures of mathematical publishing. From 1961until his move to Springer in1989, he played a major rolein the turbulent history ofAcademic Press, in varyingpositions from acquisitionseditor in mathematics andrelated fields to presidentof the company. He himself wrote a highly interesting article on the origins andearly days of this enterprise,arguably the most influentialAmerican publisher at thattime [1]. Also noteworthy ishis account of the foundationof the Journal of Combinatorial Theory, giving a livelyand often amusing glimpse of the publishing processesin the 1960s [2]. From 1989 until his retirement in 1999,Edwin Beschler served as Executive Vice President andEditorial Director of Birkhäuser Boston, a subsidiary ofSpringer New York.
