Epidemiology of COVID-19 Outbreak in Japan, from January–March 2020

[摘要] Infection with severe acute respiratory syndromecoronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes coronavirusdisease 2019 (coVID-19), and this disease typicallyleads to a febrile illness with respiratory symptoms (1,2).The disease was first detected in Wuhan, China.TheWorld Health Organization then declared this disease asa global pandemic on March 11,2020.In Japan, the firstpatient with CoVID-19 was detected on January 15.ByMarch 20 and 31,2020, the number of CoVID-19 casesreached 1,000 and 2,000 patients, respectively. Herein,we report the situation and brief epidemiology of thecoVID-19 outbreak in Japan by analyzing the 2,175cases detected between January 15 and March 31,2020.
