Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in periodontal diseases
[摘要] We have read the review article titled “Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in periodontal diseases” by Swapna A. Mahale, Pankaj K. Kalasva, Sunil Vinayak Shinde published in Journal of the International Clinical Dental Research Organization | January-December 2013 | Vol 5 | Issue 1. The article discusses about HBOT in detail, its mechanism of action, type of chamber, indication, contraindication, and complication. All these are comprehended very well. But regarding preparation before HBOT require to be reconsidered; in fact, this is an important aspect of the therapy being successful. First of all, you require a Hyperbaric Physician, not a technician to examine the patients.[1] Technician is a person who only knows to operate the chamber and have knowledge of Firstaid. It is unfortunate that in our country, there is no regulation about HBOT. Only course regarding Hyperbaric Medicine approved by MCI is Diploma in Marine Medicine which going to upgraded in MD Marine Medicine being conducted at Indian Naval Hospital Ship, Asvini, Colaba, Mumbai.
