Polytrauma in the elderly: a review
[摘要] The European population is forecast to become slightly smaller in the coming years, yet a significant increase in population age is expected.1 Today one in four patients in the United Kingdom is over 75 years of age.2 Predictive studies expect this to rise to over 40%.3,4 Life expectancy is increasing at a continuous rate, due to higher living standards and medical treatment with early detection programmes for different diseases. In addition, the fertility rate in the European Union is expected to remain below the natural population replacement rate in the coming years, thus further increasing the problem.
