AN EXPLORATION OF THE FEASIBILITY OF INTRODUCING ROTA VACCINE INTO THE ROUTINE EPI SCHEDULE OF BANGLADESH
[摘要] Rota virus is the most common cause forRotavirus-Induced Acute Gastroenteritis(RVGE) among the young infants in thedeveloping countries. RVGE is a form ofacute watery diarrhoea, which causessevere dehydration and ultimately can leadto death if untreated or poorly managed.1 Itis estimated that 2.4 million cases ofrotavirus diarrhoea occur annually inBangladesh among children under 5following about 3000 deaths. At icddr, bhospital (a Bangladeshi research basedinternational organization) about 40,000hospitalizations occurs each year forRVGE that represents about 15% ofcommunity cases. Immunization againstrotavirus can increase the infant survival tomake a positive change in near future.World Health Organization (WHO) hasalready recommended the inclusion ofRotavirus (RV) vaccine in the routineimmunization. Globally more than 130countries have already licensed RVvaccine, and 80 have integrated the RVvaccine within National ImmunizationProgramme (NIP).2 Currently, there is noavailable RV vaccine under the NIP inBangladesh.
