Commentary: Going deep by employing myocardial molecular biology for precision cardiac surgery

[摘要] Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation is a therapeutic option for patients with end-stage heart failure (HF), supporting the circulation with continuous and durable flow.1,2 Recent studies show that LVAD implantation is accompanied by significant mitral regurgitation (MR) in more than 40% of candidates with a reduction of MR secondary to reverse LV structural remodeling post-LVAD implantation in many cases.3,4 Considering the contribution of MR to right heart failure while supported by LVAD therapy, some believe that mitral valve repair should be performed concomitant to LVAD implantation.
