Commentary: Atrial fibrillation: Surgeons can do more than operate
[摘要] Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, affecting 37.5 million people globally and projected to increase >60% by 2050.1 It frequently contributes to morbidity and mortality and even more so in the surgical population. Perioperative AF is one of the most common conditions encountered by cardiothoracic surgery teams, with 30% of patients carrying a preoperative diagnosis and >20% experiencing a new postoperative diagnosis.2,3 At present, an incomplete understanding of the pathophysiology limits our ability to treat AF, and interventions remain predominantly reactive.
