Fillet welding of skewed reinforcing steel to steel plate

[摘要] Precast concrete construction commonly uses reinforcing steel anchored to structural steel platesor structural shapes by fillet welding around thecircumference of the reinforcing steel bar (Fig. 1). Thedesign of these welds is governed by the American Welding Society’s Structural Welding Code—Reinforcing Steel(AWS D1.4-18).1Notably, AWS D1.4-18 is silent on the design of fillet-welded reinforcing steel if the reinforcing steel is detailed at askew to the plate (Fig. 2). This paper studies the effect onthe overall strength of the connection when the reinforcingsteel is placed at a skew to the structural plate or shape.
