Exploring Drug Repurposing as a Promising Approach to Treat Diabetic Neuropathy
[摘要] The Diabetic neuropathy is a debilitating complication of diabetes that affects millions of people worldwide. It is caused by high blood sugarlevels that damage nerves and lead to a range of symptoms, such as pain, numbness, and tingling in the hands and feet. Current treatmentsfor diabetic neuropathy are limited and often ineffective, leaving patients with few options for relief.Drug repurposing, the process of identifying new uses for existing drugs, is a promising approach to finding novel therapies for diabeticneuropathy. By repurposing drugs that are already approved for other conditions, researchers can potentially save time and resourcescompared to developing new drugs from scratch. One class of drugs that has shown promise in the repurposing approach for diabeticneuropathy is the Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. ACE inhibitors are commonly used to treat hypertension and heartfailure by blocking the activity of the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS), which plays a key role in regulating blood pressureand fluid balance in the body.
