Second meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Purine Club
[摘要] Purines were discovered to have extracellular signallingproperties in 1929 by Alan Drury and Albert Szent-Györgyi[1]. Still, it was not until 1972, when Geofrey Burnstockproposed ATP as a neurotransmitter, that the concept ofpurinergic signalling was established [2]. Professor Burnstock proposed the frst classifcation of purinergic receptorsinto P1 (adenosine) and P2 (ATP) [3]. Less than a decadelater, the P2 receptors were classifed into two broad categories, P2X and P2Y receptors [4]. The expansion of thepurinergic signalling research feld has gone hand in handwith the establishment of several Purine Clubs across theglobe, with the frst formalised in Italy in 1991.
