Chondroblastoma with Atypical Features
[摘要] Chondroblastoma (CB) is a rare bone tumourusually occurring in long bones of males in thesecond decade. Though these are consideredbenign, rare cases show aggressive behaviourand metastases. However, there are no definedhistological criteria to diagnose aggressiveness, except soft tissue (ST) infiltration. With theidentification of specific immunohistochemicaland genetic signatures, recent research hasnurtured the concept of malignant CB and raisedconcerns that malignant CBs are beingfrequently misdiagnosed. Here we report a case of a CB with unusualfeatures, in a 62-year-old woman which includesrare location in the scapula, recurrence followinga long period after excision, extensive soft tissueinvasion, and predominant small round cellmorphology. This case intends to add to thelimited literature on aggressive CB as well as tothe evolving concept of malignant CB. The casealso highlights the importance of follow up ofpatients with CB preventing mutilating surgery.
