Clinicopathological spectrum of two common conditions encountered in renal biopsies: acute diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis and lupus nephritis

[摘要] Background: Acute diffuse proliferativeglomerulonephritis (ADPGN) and lupusnephritis (LN) are commonly encounteredconditions in renal biopsies. ADPGN is usuallya self-limiting childhood disease occurringcommonly after streptococcal infection. LN isa common complication of systemic lupuserythematosus (SLE) with diverse clinical andhistological features.Objectives: The objective of this study is todescribe the clinico-pathological spectrum ofADPGN and LN in renal biopsies.Method: A retrospective-descriptive studywas done by retrieving all renal biopsies(1225) received in the year 2018 at theDepartment of Pathology, Faculty ofMedicine, University of Peradeniya. Biopsiesdiagnosed as ADPGN and LN were selected.Results: Out of all renal biopsies (1225),63(5.1%) were diagnosed as ADPGN and92(7.5%) as LN. ADPGN was seen in an agerange of 3-78 years. 24(38.1%) were childrenand 39(61.9%) were adults. Nephriticsyndrome (NS) was the commonestpresentation in both children and adults(n=23,36.5%) while 13(20.6%) showednephrotic-nephritic mixed picture (NNMP).
