Penile multifocal mucocutaneous verruciform xanthoma clinically mimicking squamous cell carcinoma: A case report and a brief literature review

[摘要] Verruciform xanthoma is a rare benigncondition of unknown aetiology that occursmainly in the oral mucosa but occasionallyinvolves the anogenital region and skin. Theselesions, particularly when multiple, mayclinically mimic malignant tumours and pose adiagnostic challenge. The characteristichistological feature is the presence ofhistiocytic infiltrates in the papillary dermis.We report a case of multifocal mucocutaneousverruciform xanthoma of the penis in a 75-year-old man, which clinically mimicked asquamous cell carcinoma. We highlight theimportance of being aware of this benigncondition and discuss the morphology,aetiopathogenesis and treatment options.
