Yonder: Social work students, machine learning, mentoring, and urgent care centres

[摘要] Social work students. Increasing numbersof patients have complex social needs thatgo beyond the traditional scope of generalistmedical care. This has led to interest inexploring models for the integration ofsocial work into GP services, which has beenshown to improve various outcomes in pilotsettings.A recent Australian study sought toextend this by developing and evaluating afield placement curriculum for social workstudents in GP surgeries.1 They found thatthese placements help students to learnabout medical terminology and workingin health care, as well as developing coresocial work skills and knowledge. Likewise,participating GP surgeries gained usefulinformation and resources, and some insightinto social work practice. As ever, capacityand funding streams are the key limitingfactors to this otherwise sensible idea.
