Yonder: Pre-operative anxiety, breast cancer screening, patient decision aids, and medicinal cannabis
[摘要] Pre-operative anxiety. It has beenestablished for some time that patients whoexhibit increased pre-operative anxietycan experience slower recovery and morepost- operative symptoms. It would thereforebe useful to identify factors that could reducepatient anxiety, and one possible factor isthe availability of social support. A recentsystematic review from a team in Londonincluded 14 studies for descriptive analysisand five for meta-analysis.1 They found thatthere is a probable weak relationship betweenhigher social support and lower pre-operativeanxiety in elective surgery patients. Despitethe quality of the evidence being deemed aslow, the authors nonetheless suggest thatclinicians should encourage patients to seeksupport from their social support networkahead of their forthcoming surgery.
