Yonder: Kidney stones, Advanced Practice Nurses, breathlessness clinics, and digital addictions
[摘要] Kidney stones. The current lifetimeprevalence of kidney stone disease (KSD)is 14% and global studies indicate thatthis is rising. This is alarming given thatit is widely acknowledged to representone of the most severe physical painconditions that humans can experience.A research team from Ireland sought tofill a gap in the literature by studying theillness experiences of individuals withKSD.1 Participants appraised initial KSDsymptoms as indicative of a serious healththreat. Diagnosis brought some relief, however, KSD wielded multidimensionalimpacts on patients’ perceptions,self- management, and wellbeing. Anxiety, including fear of KSD recurrence, andlow mood were common psychologicalburdens across narratives. The authorssuggest clinicians should routinely screenfor psychological distress, and even suicidalideation, in people with KSD.
