Yonder: Drunkorexia, dosette boxes, doctor shopping, and slums
[摘要] Drunkorexia. The term Drunkorexia was firstused in university students and describesinappropriate compensatory behavioursin response to alcohol consumption, suchas restricting food intake, purging, anduse of laxatives. In light of recent debateabout whether Drunkorexia constitutes aneating or substance disorder, or a Foodand Alcohol Disturbance (FAD), a researchteam from Huddersfield interviewed asample of 18–26-year-olds.1 They foundthat Drunkorexia engagement is routine forparticipants, predominantly motivated byappearance-related concerns, such as notwanting to look bloated on nights out oron social media photos, and wanting ‘valuefor money’ for alcohol purchased. However, participants also reported disregard forDrunkorexiabehavioursattheendofdrinkingevents, characterised by consumption ofhigh-calorie food. This suggests, the authorsconclude, thatDrunkorexia is not a persistentpattern of maladaptive behaviour as foundin eating or substance use disorders, andshould therefore be conceptualised as a FAD.
