Yonder: Medical schools, nocturnal pain, alopecia areata, and #bodypositive
[摘要] Medical schools. Like many othercountries, the US faces a chronic shortageof primary care physicians that negativelyimpacts population health and contributesto rising healthcare costs. This prompteda research team from Michigan to conducta scoping review to synthesise literatureon institutional practices and interventionsthat support medical students’ choices ofprimary care specialties.1 They reviewed8083 articles and identified 199 articlesmeeting inclusion criteria and 41 relatedarticles. As a group, studies were oflow quality, mostly used quantitativemethodologies, rarely examined planningor piloting, and seldom looked at workforceoutcomes. The authors suggest futurestudies should employ stronger theoreticalgrounding, greater investment in planningand piloting, consistent use of language, and more qualitative methods. Theyalso challenge policymakers to considerbuilding more robust funding mechanismsto support impactful medical educationresearch focused on primary care.
