Yonder: Primary aldosteronism, artificial intelligence, irritable bowel syndrome, and financial toxicity
[摘要] Primary aldosteronism. Hypertension isbread-and-butter work for GPs and primaryaldosteronism (PA), also known as Conn’ssyndrome, is the most common cause ofsecondary hypertension. Despite the highprevalence in primary care GPs rarelyscreen for PA, and a recent Australian studysought to ask why this was the case.1 Theyfound that while GPs had been educatedabout PA, they found it challenging to explainit to patients and were uncertain about howto screen patients who were already takingantihypertensive medications. Most viewedthe screening process to be practical andinexpensive, and found it inconvenient toalter antihypertensive medications beforescreening to allow for easier interpretationof the aldosterone-to-renin ratio. Theauthors suggest that most of thesepractical barriers could be addressed byrelatively simple educational and practicemodifications to increase PA screeningrates and optimise detection.
