The Connection Between General and Sexual Health

[摘要] Since the publication of the report “Health Status of Men in Germany” (Gesundheitliche Lage der Männer in Deutschland), the body of evidence indicating that sexual dysfunction, especially erectile dysfunction in men, is a harbinger of ischemic heart disease and as such requires diagnostic work-up, has been growing (3). Sexual dysfunction can be associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus and neurological disorders (4). Only one in five men seeks medical help (5). Conversely, physical and mental illnesses can have a significant negative effect on sexual activity and sexual satisfaction—and sexuality, if perceived as satisfying, has a significant positive impact on quality of life (6).
