Nuclear Fusion: Breakthrough in Inertial Confinement

[摘要] On 13th December，the U.S. Departmentof Energy (DOE) and DOE's National Nu-clear Security Administration (NNSA) an-nounced the achievement of fusion ignitionat Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory(LLNL) as the culmination of the hard workof many dedicated scientists, engineers,tech-nicians, and administrative team members. At1:03 a.m. on 5th December,192 giant lasersat the laboratory's National Ignition Facil-ity (NIF) achieved ignition， where the energygenerated by fusion equals the energy of theincoming lasers that start the reaction (scien-tific energy breakeven).
