Invited Commentary: From Unacceptable to Intolerable

[摘要] In an address to the Medical Committee for Human Rights onMarch 25, 1966, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, stated the following: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is themost shocking and inhumane.” Over 50 years later, the UnitedStates and our profession continue to grapple with the impactof systematic and institutionalized injustice in the health caresystem. Finally, in 2020 after witnessing the disproportionateimpact of COVID-19 on communities of color and the horrendous murders of unarmed Black people on national television, most notably George Floyd, the nation seems poised tofinally find intolerable what was always unacceptable.
