Bleeding issue: a quality improvement project on the phlebotomy service at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital

[摘要] Blood tests form an important part of apatient’s journey through hospital; they playa vital role in decision-making. At our largedistric general hospital (DGH), it was identified that proportion of blood tests requestedto be taken by phlebotomists were not beingdone, this impacting on clinical decisionmaking.We conducted a quality improvementproject to improve the proportion of bloodresults available to the medical team, in atimely manner to alter patient managementduring normal working hours.Issues identified highlighted poor communication of failed venepuncture attemptsbetween the phlebotomy team and the wardjunior doctors.
