How do we encourage a change of behaviour around colleagues taking breaks?
[摘要] There is increasing evidence that in orderto ensure colleagues are able to deliver safe,high-quality care from the beginning to theend of a shift we must prioritise breaks.1–3Taking a break can include eating or havinga drink, a physical rest or for some a walk orfresh air. Regular rest is essential, especiallywhen busy or working overnight and forreducing work-related stress. There is growing support and enthusiasmfor prioritising colleague breaks in orderto simultaneously improve colleague wellbeing (particularly work-related stress), andto therefore also improve patient safety.Within NHS Trusts there have been somehigh-profile campaigns started, we believe atGuys and St Thomas’.1 The British MedicalAssociation (BMA) are also launching their#giveusabreak campaign.2 The Health Education England (HEE) National Health Service(NHS) Mental Wellbeing report highlightsthis.
