Closed loop communication using provider team-specific smartphones improves the critical laboratory value notification process in paediatric inpatients

[摘要] Appropriate handling of ‘critical’ laboratorytest result values is an essential component oftimely, quality patient care. While interinstitutional variability exists,1 critical values havehistorically been defined as potentially ‘lifethreatening’ if not attended to quickly,2 necessitating prompt notification of a responsibleclinician. Given patient safety implications,timely communication of results to a provideris a common regulatory element, including:(1) Joint Commission patient safety goals,3(2) Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments4 and (3) the International Organizationfor Standardization.5 Inpatient values comprisea significant proportion of notifications,6 andamong inpatients, oncology inpatients typicallyconstitute a substantial volume.
