Severe illness getting noticed sooner: SIGNS-for-Kids—initial validity assessment of a paediatric illness recognition tool for caregivers
[摘要] Timely identification of severe illness providesopportunity to prevent clinical deteriorationand reduce morbidity and mortality.1–4 Anexpert panel consisting of parents and multidisciplinary providers created the SevereIllness Getting Noticed Sooner (SIGNS)-forKids as a public health tool to help caregiversidentify and articulate the manifestationsof severe illness in children.5 The tool wascreated during a consensus developmentworkshop to incorporate expert opinionand previously published symptom checklistsof severe illness.6 7 The SIGNS tool consistsof 5 domains (behaviour, breathing, skin,fluids and response to usually effective treatment) and 13 subdomains. The objective ofthis study was to review the sensitivity of theSIGNS-for-Kids items in a cohort of childrenwith fatal illnesses as an initial validation step.
