Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation using a modified cardiopulmonary bypass system

[摘要] Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO), also known as an “artificiallung” or extracorporeal life support(ELS), provides continuous extracorporealrespiration and circulation for patientswith severe cardiopulmonary failure.ECMO is suitable for cardiorespiratoryarrest, acute severe heart failure, and acutesevere respiratory failure arising fromvarious causes. However, access to ECMOmachines is limited, even in highly populatedareas, and many hospitals do not have anyECMO access.[1] According to the data ofthe Chinese Society of Extracorporeal LifeSupport committee, in 2018, ECMO wasused to treat approximately 4000 patients inthe ELS centers of 260 hospitals in China.
