Study Of Clinical Features, Management And Microbiological Profile Of Fungal Sinusitis In Post Covid And Non Covid Patients.
[摘要] Patients with COVID-19 are more susceptible to coinfections with fungi. The invasive fungalinfection is commonly seen in immunocomprised and diabetics. Mucormycosis is a fatal disease with highmortality and morbidity. Hence, early diagnosis andmanagement helps to prevent mortality. Our study isa Retrospective study. The main aimis to determine the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical presentationand diagnosis & management of fungal sinusitisand to determine the various microbiological speciesassociated with post covid and non-covid patients. The study includes 70 suspected patients ofmucormycosis .Outof which 52were Post covidand 18were Non covid persons. 64.2 % received steroidsand 45.7 % received oxygen during COVID-19 management. Diabetes mellitus was the most common co- morbidity with 94% followed by hypertension. Sinonasal involvementwere the most common sitefollowed by orbit and facial pain(91.4%) was the most common presentation.Nasal and oral specimenswere sent for KOH mount, fungal culture and sensitivity .The surgical procedure was carried out based onthe clinical and radiological extent of the patient. The results concludes with culture positive Mucormycosiswas found in 30(42.85%) .Out of which Rhizopus was the predominant species in 22(31.42%)followed byAspergillus14(20%).The patients who underwent surgery were on routinefollow-up for 6 months.
