How should I treat acute agitation in pregnancy?
[摘要] Acute agitation in the pregnant patient should be treated as an obstetric emergency, as it jeopardizes the safety ofthe patient and fetus, as well as others in theemergency room. Uncontrolled agitation isassociated with obstetric complications suchas preterm delivery, placental abnormalities, postnatal death, and spontaneous abortion.1 Current data on the reproductive safety ofdrugs commonly used to treat acute agitation—benzodiazepines, typical (fi rst-generation) antipsychotics, atypical (second-generation) antipsychotics, and diphenhydramine—suggestno increase in risk beyond the 2% to 3% riskof congenital malformations in the generalpopulation when used in the fi rst trimester.
