Obstructive sleep apnea basics

[摘要] Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a condition caused byrepeated episodes of upper airway collapse and obstruction during sleep associated with arousal from sleep withor without oxygen desaturation. OSA is a highly prevalentcondition, particularly in individuals with establishedrisk factors and comorbid conditions. Screening for OSAincludes a sleep history, review of symptoms, and physicalexamination, the results of which can identify patientsthat need testing for OSA. The polysomnogram or homesleep apnea test results aid in the diagnosis of OSA andits severity.
