A summary of our recent evidence-based works on radiographic diagnostics of prevalent osteoporotic vertebral fracture in older men and women
[摘要] The bone composition of the spine, which is predominantlytrabecular bone, is more prone to the thinning andmicroarchitectural changes associated with osteoporosisthan regions of the hip that are richer in cortical bone.Assessment of vertebral fracture (VF) status, in additionto bone mineral density (BMD), provides relevantclinical information to aid in predicting fracture risk inpostmenopausal women. Despite its high clinical relevance, there is no consensus yet on the radiographic diagnosiscriteria for osteoporotic VF (OVF). We have recentlydiscussed our understanding of radiographic diagnostics forprevalent OVF in older women (1). In the current article,we summarize our recent evidence-based research resultsof radiographic diagnostics concerning prevalent OVF inolder men and women.
