Coexistence of parathyroid adenoma, autonomous functioning thyroid nodule, and papillary thyroid carcinoma: a case description
[摘要] Parathyroid adenoma, autonomous functioning thyroidnodule (AFTN), and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC)are 3 common endocrine disorders. However, patientswith coexisting parathyroid adenoma, AFTN, and PTCare extremely rare (1). Due to the anatomically closerelationship of the thyroid and parathyroid, imagingmanifestations of lesions in the thyroid and parathyroidare identical or similar, which increases the difficulty ofdiagnosis and the likelihood of misdiagnosis and misseddiagnosis (2). This report describes the case of a 53-yearold woman with a 20-year history of thyroid nodules andwas preoperatively diagnosed with concomitant AFTNand parathyroid adenoma. In addition, an unexpected PTCwas revealed intraoperatively. The experience of this casestresses the significance of examination methods and thetimely identification of parathyroid adenoma in patientswith coexistent thyroid nodules, including benign thyroidnodules and thyroid cancer.
