Minimally Deviated Lymphohematopoietic Neoplasms: Nomenclature in the Context of Pathobiology

[摘要] Two committees, under the banner of the World HealthOrganization, periodically revise the designation and classification of neoplastic lymphoid and neoplastic myeloid diseases, respectively [1, 2]. Classification is useful (a) toprovide a common language with which physicians or scientists can be certain they are referring to the same diseaseand (b) to ensure that there is uniformity of a disease understudy in multicenter clinical trials. Classification, also, provides insights into (c) the likely course of a particular disease,(d) the treatment shown by previous clinical trials to be mostuseful, and (e) an estimate of the likely range of and probability of outcomes from a specific treatment approach.Classification has been developed, principally, from thedisease phenotype, but, where possible and useful, genotype should be used as well. The use of genotype hasbecome more widely applicable to many neoplasms of aspecific tissue, but notably as applied to the hematologicalmalignancies. Genes found to correlate with diagnosis, specific drug selection, or prognosis add to the profound utilityof identifying genotype [3].
