Tracing the Progress of Pathology in Sri Lanka – Part I Development of clinical pathology services
[摘要] In this series of articles comprising of threeparts, an attempt is being made to documentthe birth and evolution of Pathology in SriLanka. In this, the first part, the developmentof clinical pathology services country wide willbe addressed.When tracing the evolution of Medicine, it isapparent that Internal Medicine and Surgeryas the major disciplines, became easilyrecognized and established early unlikePathology. One finds that much of Pathologywas described and taught by clinicians. Before1906 surgeons delivered lectures on surgicalpathology and examined specimens removedat surgery at the London Hospital MedicalSchool. Sir James Paget an eminent surgeonwho described many pathological entities wasknown to have “held students captive with hislectures” at the Medical College of StBartholomews’s Hospital (Barts) during thissame period.
