Cell biology: Bacteria's new bones
[摘要] The recent research in bacteria cells and findings of strange bacterial protein known as MreB are revealing a multitude of elegant internal structures of cells. The cytoskeleton present in the cell is responsible for efficient cell division and growth. According to Mullin's lab studies, ParM, bacterial version of action, ensures that as a cell splits in two, each receives a copy of specific plasmid. Using cryolectron tomography, the cell interior can be examined and it appears as a matrix of varying texture without any obvious organized internal structure. Actins that determine cell shape work differently across the bacterial world.
