Chimp genome: Branching out
[摘要] Evolutionary biologists hope that the genome sequencing of a variety of primates will help answer fundamental questions about our own evolution and that of other primates. Though chimps are our closest relatives, our genomes are too similar to get meaningful answers to many of these questions. Its difficult to tell whether a DNA sequence in humans that is missing in chimps was really added during human evolution or is maybe a natural variant within one species. Sequencing the genomes of other primates such as the rhesus macaque if they are to address the question of which genetic changes are unique to humans or chimps.
