Biomedicine to sell itself as a local hero

[摘要] Between 1999 and 2003 funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was doubled, this led to many young people opting to study biomedical sciences. However, in the last four years the budget has remained flat, meaning the NIH has less purchasing power than in 2003, and the number of grants awarded has been falling accordingly. Now advocacy groups are aiming to highlight the local benefits of investing in science research to convince lawmakers to increase their budget.
