[摘要] Revisão bibliográfica onde são apresentadas as principais características pertinentes ao cariótipo das aves. Abordam-se aspectos referentes aos macros e microcromossomos, à distribuição da heterocromatina, à região organizadora do nucléolo, e ao relacionamento cario típico entre aves e outros animais.

Bibliographic review presenting the principle characteristics pertaining to the avian karyotype and dealing with aspects referential to macro and microchromosomes, the distribution of heterochromatin, nucleolus organizing region and the karyotypic relationship between birds and other animals.
