Orthographic Error Patterns of Author Names in Catalog Searches

[摘要] An investigation of error patterns in author names based on data from a survey of library catalog searches. Position of spelling errors was noted and related to length of name. Probability of a name having a spelling error was found to increase with length of name. Nearly half of the spelling mistakes were replacement errors; following, in order of decreasing frequency, were omission, addition, and transposition errors.
