The reciprocal process of the site and the subject in devising site-specific performance
[摘要] This essay explores the relationship between the site and peformance piece in devised site-specific performance. It focuses on the site-specific work of two companies, Brith Gof and Wrights and Sites. It discusses both their practical approach to the site and performance, and their theoretical writings on the subject. The essay explores the way in which the nature of the relationship is reciprocal, particularly how the site will consistently remain an active influence on the performance piece. It also addresses the role of the audience and their relationship with the site, within a site-specific performance. The essay goes on to discuss Tin Box's /(Stop the Clocks)\ (2011), my own collaborative site specific work co-directed with Jo Newman. It explores the way in which we devised the performance using the site as a central stimulus and how our piece fits into the workings of the site specific genre as a whole.
