Search for vμ --> ve oscillations in a narrow band neutrino beams

[摘要] An experiment that looked for the oscillation vmu => ve was performed using a narrowband ve beam produced by the AGS at Brookhaven National Lab. Both the v, and Vereactions in our detector are analyzed. The number of v, events found in the detectoris compared to the expected background from Monte Carlo calculations and an excessof 22.4±5.6± 4.4 3.8 events above background is found. The excess represents a 3 standarddeviation effect and may suggest a neutrino oscillation.The ratio of the acceptance corrected number of Ve and v, events is calculated fromthe data. The value is R = ve/ vmu = 0.0184 ± .0085.
