Synthesis, biodegradability, and drug delivery property of apatite/gelatin composite microspheres
[摘要] Biodegradable materials are of great importance in the development of novel drug delivery system. Here, the apatite/gelatin composite microspheres were synthesized as the mixture of apatite and gelatin was emulsified in the plant oil and then cross-linked with 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride and N-hydroxysuccinimide. Their biodegradability and drug delivery property were evaluated. The resultant microspheres were characterized with an optical microscope, a scanning electron microscope, a transmission electron microscope, an X-ray diffractometer and a Fourier transform infrared spectroscope. The results have indicated that the as-synthesized microspheres were spherical in shape and had a size range of 50-230 μm. After soaked in the phosphate buffer saline (pH = 7.4), the composite microspheres were biodegradable and their biodegradation rate approximated 28 ± 2% after 14 days of incubation. It was further found that the present composite microspheres could support the encapsulation of tetracycline hydrochloride as model drug and presented a sustained drug release behavior.
