The British Council and British cultural propaganda during the interwar period
[摘要] This paper is intended to show the development of British Cultural propaganda during the interwar period, and the role played by the British Council during this period. This development will be shown using cases studies highlighting the roles of the British Council in Europe, the Middle and Near East, culminating with British participation in the New York Worlds Fair of 1939. This thesis aims to address the lack of work based on propaganda during the interwar period, as well as highlighting the role cultural propaganda played in British interwar foreign policy, both in the Middle East and Europe. The paper uses official documentation from the era, located at the Public Records Office in Kew, as evidence as well as an array of secondary literature to provide as full a picture as possible regarding British cultural propaganda and the activities of the British Council during the interwar years.
