The experience of living with someone with dementia who finds it difficult to make a positive contribution to social situations
[摘要] This thesis consisting of two volumes is submitted to the University of Birmingham towards the degree of Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Volume I comprises three chapters. The first chapter is a systematic review exploring the effectiveness of communication interventions aimed at or actively involving family caregivers in improving the communication of people living with dementia. The second chapter is an empirical study exploring how spouses of people living with dementia experience and make sense of their relationship in the context of changes in emotional reciprocity and social interaction. The third chapter is a public dissemination document which provides an accessible overview of chapters one and two. Volume II comprises five clinical practice reports (CPRs). The first report presents a case formulation for Sophie , a 28-year-old female presenting with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder from two psychological perspectives. The second report presents a service evaluation on the provision of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for individuals experiencing Schizophrenia in a community mental health service. The third report presents a single-case experimental design to identify the function of self-injurious behaviour exhibited by Leah1, a nine-year-old female experiencing a severe intellectual disability. The fourth report presents a case study for Robert1, an 82-year-old male experiencing dementia who exhibited behaviours that challenge. The fifth report presents an abstract of an oral presentation for a case study about Daniel1, a 15-year-old male experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
