Cross sections for the 26Mg (p ,n)26AI reaction have been measured from threshold at Ep = 4.988 MeV to Ep = 5.820 MeV. Cross sections for the 23Na (α,n)26AI reaction have been measured from threshold at Eα = 3.483 MeV to Eα = 4.597 MeV. In each case separate measurements have been to the ground state and to the first and second excited states of 26AI. Cross sections for the inverse reactions have been calculated and reaction rate factors relating to the destruction of 26AI in a supernova environment have been determined. Astrophysical implications relating to the observation of live and extinct 26AI are discussed. Excitation functions for several additional exit channels for the 26Mg + p and 26Na + α reactions are reported.
