A method has been devised for the testing of any substanceas an intermediate in a reaction sequence. Using this technique,thirty-three substances have been tested as precursors of theurea carbon atom. Of the compounds tested, only citrulline andarginine were precursors.
Garbamyl L-glutamic acid was shown not to be a donor ofthe urea carbon, although it does have some function in urea synthesis.
